There is something powerful that happens when a man gives his life to Jesus Christ. He becomes new, but that does not mean everything feels new overnight. Scripture says that anyone in Christ is a new creation — but learning how to live from that new identity is a journey.

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new." — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (WEB)

When Intimacy Feels Unfamiliar

For many men, intimacy is not easy. We may know how to work, provide, protect, endure, and keep going — but opening the heart can feel unfamiliar. That can show up even in our relationship with God. A man may believe in Jesus, pray to Jesus, and still struggle to receive the love of Jesus personally.

That should not bring shame. It should bring honesty.

Old Wounds, Old Patterns

Some men come to Christ carrying old behaviors, old wounds, old coping patterns, and old ideas about masculinity. They may know how to survive, but not yet know how to surrender. They may know how to perform, but not yet know how to be loved.

This is where the journey of sanctification begins. God does not just save a man's soul — He begins renewing his mind, his desires, his habits, and his identity.

"Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." — Romans 12:2 (WEB)

Keep Showing Up

From personal experience, I can say this: growth takes time. There may be seasons where you still feel pulled toward old ways. There may be moments when prayer feels awkward, Bible reading feels difficult, or fellowship with other men feels uncomfortable. But keep showing up.

Read the Bible, even when you do not understand everything. Attend a men's Bible study, even if you feel out of place at first. Sit with other brothers who are also learning, growing, falling, repenting, and getting back up.

"Let's consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." — Hebrews 10:24-25 (WEB)

Iron Sharpens Iron

A man's identity in Christ is not built in isolation. It is strengthened through Scripture, prayer, community, accountability, and consistency. Iron sharpens iron — and sometimes God uses another brother's testimony to help you believe that change is possible for you too.

When It Becomes Personal

The turning point often comes when the love of Jesus stops being only a doctrine and becomes personal. Not just "Jesus loves the world," but "Jesus loves me." Not just "Jesus forgives sinners," but "Jesus forgives me." Not just "God has a plan," but "God is working in me."

That is when real growth begins.

You start stretching yourself. You apologize more quickly. You listen more deeply. You become more honest about your weaknesses. You stop hiding behind pride. You begin to understand that strength in Christ is not pretending you have no wounds — strength is bringing those wounds to the Savior and allowing Him to heal what you used to hide.

God Finishes What He Starts

New believer, be patient with yourself, but do not stay passive. God is gracious, but He is also calling you forward. Be consistent. Stay in the Word. Stay connected to godly men. Keep praying. Keep learning how to receive love. Keep letting Jesus shape the man you are becoming.

"Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ." — Philippians 1:6 (WEB)

So keep walking. Keep growing. Keep surrendering.

You are not just becoming a better man.
You are becoming a man rooted in Christ.
